Frequently Asked Questions

Dr. Gilani is an expert in her field and as such gets asked a lot of questions about non-surgical cosmetic procedures. On this page are some of the questions she is asked most often about beauty treatments, along with her answers.

Does wrinkle relaxing injection treatment hurt?

There is no need for local anaesthetic creams for wrinkle relaxing injections as the injections are small and quick. At the most you may feel a slight sting at the injection site for a few seconds. However if you are particularly worried about pain, ice can be applied to the area before hand to numb the skin a bit.

Do dermal fillers/Radiesse/Sculptra hurt?

Injections can be uncomfortable and therefore you are offered a choice of local anaesthetic cream to the skin being treated or a full dental anaesthetic block.

The local anaesthetic cream must be applied at least 30 minutes before the treatment. A full block involves 2-4 injections into the gum, which will numb the face in a few seconds, just as you would have at the dentist. This can take a couple of hours to wear off.

Does Sclerotherapy hurt?

Leg vein treatment with sclerotherapy is not painful. The injections are very superficial and the needle is very small. Your legs may ache slightly after the treatment.

Will I have a lot of swelling?

With wrinkle relaxing injection treatment - there is only transient swelling at the injection site that fades in about an hour.

With dermal fillers, Sculptra and Radiesse - you are more likely to have some swelling that can last up to 48hours. I would advice that you do not plan any major social events for a few days after your treatment to avoid disappointment.

Can I fly after my beauty treatment?

Yes with all the treatments you can fly afterwards, but I advise you to wait a few days. It is always advisable to drink plenty of water on the flight to avoid dehydration of the skin.

How long till I see results?

The time from treatment to results varies according to the individual treatments, as well as the patient.

Will my skin peel off with a glycolic peel of TCA peel?

No. The gylcolic peel is a gentle peel, you may have some redness of the skin and there may be some skin flaking, similar to when your tan peels, but no more than this. The TCA peel is more agressive and you will have a lot of peeling but you should still be able to carry on with your normal activities.

Can I go to the gym after my treatment?

With all the treatments, exercise on the day of treatment is not advised. Otherwise you can go back to your exercise regime when you feel comfortable.

Can I have a facial/massage/sauna after my treatment?

With all treatments it advised to avoid any extremes of temperature for a few days afterwards. With glycolic peels a full sun block must be worn for at least 2 weeks after each treatment. I would advise avoiding any facial massage or facial treatments (eg:CACI/microdermabrasion) for a week after all facial cosmetic treatments.
